  • Horn Bet

    Craps

    A one-time bet on 2, 3, 11 and 12. 2 and 12 pay 30 to 1, while 3 and 11 pay 15 to 1.

  • Payout Percentage

    Casino

    The long-term percentage of money played on a slot machine that is paid back out to players.

  • Multiplay

    Video Poker

    A video poker machine that allows 3, 5, 10, 50 or 100 hands to be played at a time. Each, however, starts with the same base hand, to which additional cards are dealt.

  • Soft Double Down

    Blackjack

    Doubling a bet on a hand of two cards, where at least one is an ace. The player must take exactly one more card.

  • Passé

    Roulette

    A bet on the number 19-36.

  • Insurance

    Blackjack

    A side bet offered when the dealer shows an ace. A player can wager up to half their original bet and win double the second bet if the dealer has a blackjack (thus losing nothing if the dealer does have a blackjack).

  • Bingo

    A game where the player tries to be the first to match 5 numbers in a row, horizontally, vertically or diagonally, on a 5x5 card to drawn numbers.

  • Don’t Pass Line

    A place to bet on the come-out roll. The exact opposite of the pass line, except on a roll of 12.

  • Double Up

    Video Poker

    A side bet on a winning hand. The player must draw a higher card than the one shown to win.

  • Basket Bet

    Roulette

    The worst single bet in roulette: betting on 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3 simultaneously. It pays 6 to 1, making the house advantage the highest possible.

  • Pick ‘em Poker Video Poker

    Video Poker

    A simple version of video poker in which the player is dealt two cards, then gets to choose which of two cards to keep as their third card, and is dealt two more. Wins with a pair of 9s or better.

  • Long Run

    Casino

    The point, after enough rounds of play, where the cumulative actual outcome approaches the theoretical mathematical expectation.

  • Banker

    Casino

    The dealer. In pai gow, a player can become the banker, gaining the advantage of winning ties. In baccarat, one of the two hands the player can bet on.

  • Pip

    Casino

    Spots on a card, the number of them being the value of the card.

  • Point Total

    Casino

    The total value of cards in a player or dealer hand.

  • Double Zero

    Roulette

    An extra green number on the American version of roulette which doubles the house advantage.

  • Center Field

    Craps

    A bet that the next roll will be a 9.

  • Don't Come Box

    Craps

    The area to place a don't come bet.

  • Slot Schedule

    Information describing the type of slot machine and its payouts.

  • Scared Money

    Casino

    Money gambled by a player who is afraid to lose it.

  • Board

    1) In hold'em, the 5 cards placed face up which can be used by any player;

    2) In stud, a player's face up cards.

  • Rolled Up

    In stud poker, a three of a kind made with the first three cards. A very powerful starting hand.

  • Down Card

    A card dealt face down, i.e. hidden from other players.

  • Row Bet

    A bet on three numbers on one of the 12 rows or streets. Pays 11 to 1. Also known as a street bet.

  • Front Line Winner

    Craps

    A pass line bet won on the come-out roll.

    Synonym: Line Away

  • Rien Ne Vas Plus

    Roulette

    French term ("nothing goes") meaning that no more bets will be accepted.

  • Ace-deuce

    Craps

    A roll of a 1 (ace) and a 2 (deuce).

  • Five-card Charlie

    Blackjack

    A five-card blackjack hand that hasn't busted, i.e. go over 21.

  • Progression Betting

    Casino

    A system of changing a player's bet size from round to round based on various criteria. Better known as progressive betting. Examples include the Martingale and D'Alembert Systems.

  • Slots Drop and Hold

    Drop: the amount of money wagered. Hold: the amount of money won by the casino.

  • Four of a Kind or Quads

    Four cards of the same rank.

  • Craps

    1) A casino game where players bet on the outcome of rolling two dice;

    2) In the aforementioned game, a dice roll of 2, 3 or 12.

  • Player Rating

    A ranking based on an estimate of how much the player is betting (and theoretically losing to the house). Used to award comps.

  • Flat Top

    A slot machine with a fixed jackpot, rather than a progressive jackpot which grows until it is won.

  • Line Bet

    1) In slots, the amount bet on each active line;

    2) In roulette, a bet on six numbers in two adjacent rows, e.g. 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.
