  • Instant Winner

    Slots

    A win paid out on the spot rather than in installments that may stretch out over years (see winner annuity).

  • Multi-Line Slot

    Slots

    A slot machine with multiple paylines, offering more opportunities to win per spin.

  • Face Cards

    Kings, queens or jacks in a deck of cards.

  • Reel Stop

    A single position on a slot reel, occupied by either a symbol or a blank space.

  • Super Stud Poker

    A version of seven-card stud hi/lo with two differences:

    1) A player is dealt five cards, discards two, and turns one up;

    2) It is a strictly pot limit game.

  • Trio Bet

    A bet on three numbers in a straight row, e.g. 4, 5, 6. Pays 11 to 1. Also called a triple.

  • Honeymoon Period

    A belief that new players win initially. More commonly known as beginner's luck.

  • Connector

    Poker

    Connectors are cards of adjacent ranks, e.g. K and Q. Suited connectors also have the same suit.

  • Money Put In Action

    The amount bet, not necessarily in one round of play.

  • Pit

    An area containing a group of table games. Larger casinos have multiple pits.

  • Singleton

    The only card of a particular rank.

  • Dominate

    A hand that has a much better initial chance of winning than another. E.g. in hold'em, AK vs A9 or QQ vs 77.

  • Score

    Win a lot of money.

  • Buy a Feature Slot

    A slot machine in which more features and bonuses become available when multiple coins are played on a spin.

  • One-Armed Bandit

    An older term for a slot machine.

  • Triple Sharp

    The best of the sharps, i.e. the greatest professional gamblers.

  • Bankroll

    The total amount a player has available for gambling.

  • Bicycle Wheel

    A hand of A2345, which is a straight and, in most lowball games, the best possible low hand.

  • Play the Board

    A player uses all five community cards to make their hand, since their hole cards are useless.

  • Net Winnings

    Actual profit after deducting what the player wagered of their own money.

  • Triple

  • Trips

    A 3 of a kind made using one hole (hidden) card and two community cards on the board. Differs from a set.

  • True Odds

    The correct mathematical odds. In craps, the odds bet pays out at the true odds, which means the house has no advantage.

  • Turn

    In hold'em, the fourth community card.

  • Catch

    A drawn number that matches one marked on a player's keno ticket.

  • Spanish 21

    Blackjack

    A blackjack version in which the four 10s are removed from each deck used. To compensate for this house edge, there are additional rules favoring the player.

  • Credit

    Casino

    In slot machines, the basic unit of a bet. Many slot machines let the player decide the value of a credit rather than having it preset.

  • Quarter Bet

    A bet on four touching numbers. Pays 8 to 1. Also known as a corner bet.

  • Session

    A period of time spent gambling.

  • Maximum Payout

    The highest amount paid out, available only by making the maximum bet. An incentive offered by the casino to encourage larger bets.

  • Front Line

    Another name for the pass line.

  • Four Card Straight

    Four cards that can potentially make a straight, either inside (e.g. J1087) or open ended (e.g. J1098).

  • Twelve Number Bet

    A bet on the 12 numbers in one of the three columns on the inner roulette layout. Pays 2 to 1. Also known as a column bet.

  • Twenty-One or 21

    Other names for blackjack.

  • Hand

    Hand. A round of play in a card game.

    1) A player's cards;

    Examples:

    I had the worst hand in Texas Hold'Em last round.

    Pocket Rockets (AA) is not exactly the worst hand in poker.

    In Blackjack, you need to achieve a hand as close to 21 as possible.

    2) A round of play in a card game.

    Examples:

    Let's make a break after this hand.

    Wait till the end of the hand to exchange money for chips.

  • Hot

    A player on a winning streak or a slot machine that is paying out more often than normal.

    Antonym: Cold

  • High Society

    Casino

    $10,000 in chips.

  • Colonne

    Roulette

    French for column. In roulette, a bet on all 12 numbers in one of three columns.

    Synonym: Column Bet

  • Flash

    Casino

    A type of casino software that involves no downloading and can be used to play immediately.

    Synonym: Instant play or Flash version
